The Santa Cruz Bonsai Kai is a bonsai club, the mission of which is to promote the art of bonsai to the general public through education and training. As is the tradition of bonsai clubs, we present an annual exhibit of our trees usually in late March or early April. We have been in existence since 1988 and our members have developed some very fine bonsai trees since then. We are also the primary organizer and exhibiter of bonsai trees at the annual Santa Cruz County Fair.
Membership in The Santa Cruz Bonsai Kai is open to any and all bonsai enthusiasts or anyone interested in learning the art of bonsai – from first-time beginner to the life-long bonsai aficionado. We currently have more than 70 active members who learn something new about bonsai at each and every one of our meetings. Other club activities include educational demonstrations by famous bonsai artists, hands-on workshops guided by visiting instructors, garden and nursery tours, field trips to dig specimens, and trips to other bonsai shows and events.
The Santa Cruz Bonsai Kai regularly meets on the third Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at the Live Oak Grange Hall, 1900 17th Avenue, Santa Cruz, 95062. Consider visiting our club during one of these meetings and you will meet interesting people and observe fascinating bonsai projects. As a result, you will find out that there is much more to bonsai than the trees you see at shopping malls.
